STALLIONS

At current point we do not stand any stallions, although we are hoping to breed a Knabstrupper colt with all the qualities and characteristics we are looking for in a future stud prospect. We also hope to import a suitable colt or stallion at a later stage.

In the interim however we will be utilising frozen semen from graded Knabstrupper stallions in Europe who have the pedigrees we are looking for. With thanks to BlackLaw stud in Scotland who have been exceptional in their willingness to assist us with our dream to own and breed Knabstruppers in New Zealand, we have imported a number of doses of frozen semen for Xhogun Middelsom. Over and above Xhogun’s strong pedigree and grading results with the KNN (Knabstrupper stud book), he is a few spot stallion, which means although his coat appears to be white based – he is homozygous for the gene responsible for creating the spots.

We are incredibly fortunate to have access to such a wonderful stallion to provide us with a strong foundation for our future plans. Xhogun has since been sold back to his birthplace, Denmark, so I cannot emphasise enough how fortunate we were to secure frozen doses when we did. We have one filly on the ground to date, and we are expecting our second foal in Feb 2011. With all going well, we will have some more Xhogun youngsters arriving in the 2011 and 2012 breeding season.
